The course focuses on the essential-oil knowledge needed to create a customised aromatherapy massage for each client.

You will study the characteristics of different oils and learn how top, middle and base notes work together within a blend. Your tutor will explain how to choose oils according to the client’s consultation, preferences and treatment goals.

The course builds on your existing body massage skills. It does not replace the core massage qualification required to perform a professional full-body treatment.

After successful completion, you will receive an Aromatherapy Massage Diploma. The course is accredited and insurable, subject to holding the required Body Massage qualification and arranging suitable professional insurance.

Understanding Essential Oils

Each essential oil has its own aroma and characteristics. Selecting oils without a clear plan can create a blend that is unbalanced or unsuitable for the client.

You will learn how to compare oils and consider how they may work together within an aromatherapy massage treatment.

The course introduces:

  • Common essential oils used in aromatherapy massage
  • The individual characteristics of selected oils
  • Top, middle and base fragrance notes
  • How different notes influence a finished blend
  • Choosing oils according to client preferences
  • Following product guidance and safe working practices

Top, Middle and Base Notes

Aromatherapy blends are often structured using top, middle and base notes.

Top notes are usually noticed first. Middle notes form the main character of the blend, while base notes can give the aroma greater depth.

You will learn how to identify these groups and combine them without allowing one oil to overpower the full blend.

Creating Custom Aromatherapy Blends

The same oil blend will not suit every client.

You will learn how to use consultation information to create a more personalised aromatherapy massage. This includes discussing aroma preferences, treatment expectations and relevant restrictions before selecting the oils.

Your tutor will demonstrate how to:

  • Select oils for a planned treatment
  • Combine complementary fragrance notes
  • Adjust a blend according to client preference
  • Prepare the blend before beginning the massage
  • Record the oils used for future appointments
  • Avoid making unsupported medical claims

Adding Aromatherapy to a Full-Body Massage

The practical section teaches you how to introduce the selected blend into an existing full-body massage routine.

You will learn how to prepare the treatment area, apply the massage product and maintain a smooth treatment flow.

The oils should support the client’s experience without distracting from correct massage technique, pressure or positioning.

Client Consultation

A thorough consultation must take place before the aromatherapy massage begins.

You will learn how to discuss the client’s preferences, previous treatments and relevant health information.

The consultation helps you decide whether the treatment is suitable and whether an oil, product or part of the routine should be changed.

You will also learn when treatment should be delayed or refused and when the client may need appropriate professional advice.

Treatment Preparation and Safety

The treatment room, products and equipment must be prepared before the client arrives.

You will learn how to organise the oils, prepare the massage blend and maintain hygiene throughout the appointment.

The course also covers working within product instructions, storing oils correctly and keeping clear treatment records.

What You Will Learn

  • Contraindications and treatment restrictions
  • Health, safety and hygiene
