Indian Head Massage Course

The Indian Head Massage Course teaches beginners how to perform a structured seated massage using controlled movements and pressure-point techniques.

The treatment can be carried out while the client is seated on a suitable low-back chair. It may also be performed over clothing, making it practical for salons, spas, mobile appointments, events and workplace settings.

You will learn how to prepare the treatment area, position the client and follow a clear massage sequence. Your tutor will demonstrate each movement before you complete supervised practice on a model.

The course is suitable for complete beginners. No previous massage or beauty qualification is required.

After successful completion, you will receive an Indian Head Massage Diploma. The course is accredited and insurable, subject to arranging suitable professional insurance before offering treatments.

Performing a Seated Indian Head Massage

Indian head massage does not require a full massage bed or complete change of clothing.

You will learn how to position the client safely on a suitable chair and maintain their comfort throughout the treatment.

The seated format makes the treatment easy to introduce in settings where space, time or equipment may be limited.

Indian Head Massage Movements

The practical training introduces a variety of massage movements used within a complete Indian head massage routine.

You will learn how to control your hand position, pressure and rhythm. Each movement should flow into the next without making the treatment feel rushed or disconnected.

Your tutor will guide you through:

  • Preparing and positioning the client
  • Beginning the treatment professionally
  • Using controlled massage movements
  • Applying pressure-point techniques
  • Maintaining a steady treatment rhythm
  • Adapting pressure to client comfort
  • Moving through the treatment sequence
  • Completing and closing the treatment

Pressure-Point Techniques

The course includes selected pressure-point techniques within the Indian head massage routine.

You will learn how to apply pressure with control and avoid making the treatment uncomfortable. Pressure should always be adapted according to the client’s feedback.

The training focuses on professional application rather than diagnosing or treating medical conditions.

Traditional Chakra Elements

The course also introduces chakra balancing and channeling as part of the traditional framework associated with Indian head massage.

Your tutor will explain how these elements may be incorporated into the treatment experience while maintaining clear professional boundaries.

These traditional concepts should not be presented as medical diagnosis or treatment.

Client Consultation

A consultation should take place before the massage begins.

You will learn how to discuss the client’s preferences, treatment expectations and relevant health information.

The consultation helps you decide whether the treatment is suitable and whether the pressure, positioning or routine needs to be adapted.

Preparing for the Treatment

The treatment space should be organised before the client arrives.

The course covers:

  • Preparing the chair and treatment area
  • Maintaining hygiene
  • Positioning the client correctly
  • Protecting the client’s comfort and privacy
  • Organising any products or equipment
  • Keeping clear consultation records

  • Client consultation
  • Contraindications and treatment restrictions

Offering Indian Head Massage at Events

The seated format allows Indian head massage to be adapted for suitable events, open days and mobile settings.

Because the treatment may be carried out over clothing, it can require less preparation than a full-body massage.

You must still complete a consultation, maintain hygiene and protect the client’s privacy before beginning the treatment.

The pressure points took me a little while to get used to, but the tutor explained where my hands should be and how much pressure to use. That one-to-one correction helped a lot.

I’d been looking for a treatment I could offer without needing a full massage setup, so this course suited me perfectly. I liked how simple the seated treatment was to set up while still feeling like a proper professional service.

The scalp work was the part I enjoyed most. I’d never realised how much the hand position and rhythm affect the treatment until we practised it properly.
