The HIFU (High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound) facial is rapidly becoming one of the most in-demand non-invasive
skin tightening treatments in the aesthetics industry. It is widely recognised for its ability to target deeper layers of the
skin to stimulate collagen production and improve skin firmness without surgery or downtime.

Often referred to as the “non-surgical facelift,” this powerful treatment works by targeting the deeper layers of the skin
to stimulate collagen production, helping to lift, firm, and tighten without needles, surgery, or downtime.
This advanced treatment has gained significant popularity in clinics worldwide, with demand continuing to grow year
on year as clients seek effective alternatives to more invasive procedures.

HIFU Facial Course

The HIFU Facial Course teaches qualified facial and skincare professionals how to perform non-invasive facial lifting, firming and contouring treatments.

HIFU stands for High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound. The treatment delivers focused ultrasound energy to selected depths beneath the skin.

It is designed to support collagen production and improve the appearance of facial firmness and definition over time.

During the course, you will learn how to assess the client, map the treatment areas and select suitable device settings.

You will also study facial anatomy, treatment depth, contraindications, health and safety, treatment protocols and aftercare.

After successful completion, you will receive a HIFU Facial Diploma. The course is accredited and insurable, subject to holding the required facial qualification and arranging suitable professional insurance.

How HIFU Facial Treatments Work

HIFU uses focused ultrasound energy within selected layers beneath the skin.

Different treatment areas may require different cartridge depths and settings. These must be selected according to the client’s facial structure, skin condition and treatment plan.

The treatment is non-invasive and does not involve surgery or injections. Results and recovery can vary between clients.

Facial Assessment and Consultation

A detailed consultation must be completed before treatment.

You will learn how to discuss:

  • The client’s treatment goals
  • Relevant medical information
  • Previous facial or aesthetic treatments
  • Medication and skincare products
  • Areas of concern
  • Expected treatment results
  • Contraindications and restrictions

The consultation helps you decide whether HIFU is suitable and which areas should be included in the treatment plan.

Facial Anatomy and Treatment Depth

The course covers the facial anatomy needed to perform HIFU treatments safely.

You will learn how facial structures and treatment depths affect cartridge and setting selection.

The training includes:

  • Relevant facial anatomy
  • Skin structure
  • Different treatment depths
  • Areas that may be treated
  • Areas that must be avoided
  • Safe handpiece placement

Facial Mapping

The face must be mapped before the device is used.

You will learn how to divide the treatment area into clear sections and mark suitable application lines.

Accurate mapping helps you work in a controlled order and avoid unsuitable areas.

The course covers mapping for areas such as:

  • The jawline
  • The lower face
  • The cheeks
  • The chin
  • Selected areas of the neck

HIFU Device Settings

The same device setting should not be used for every client or treatment area.

You will learn how to consider:

  • Cartridge depth
  • Energy level
  • Treatment spacing
  • Facial area
  • Client comfort
  • Skin and tissue condition

You must also follow the instructions for the specific HIFU device used in your professional setting.

Step-by-Step HIFU Facial Procedure

Your tutor will demonstrate the complete treatment from consultation to aftercare.

The procedure includes:

  • Preparing the treatment room
  • Completing the client consultation
  • Cleansing and preparing the skin
  • Assessing the facial structure
  • Mapping the treatment areas
  • Selecting the cartridge and settings
  • Applying the treatment medium
  • Positioning the handpiece
  • Following the planned treatment lines
  • Monitoring client comfort
  • Completing the treatment
  • Providing aftercare advice

Health, Safety and Hygiene

HIFU equipment and treatment areas must be prepared before every appointment.

The course covers:

  • Cleaning the treatment area
  • Preparing the device
  • Checking cartridges and attachments
  • Maintaining professional hygiene
  • Protecting client comfort
  • Keeping treatment records
  • Cleaning the equipment after use
  • Working within your professional training

Contraindications and Client Suitability

HIFU is not suitable for every client.

You will learn how to identify conditions or circumstances that may require treatment to be changed, delayed or refused.

Recent facial procedures, certain medical conditions and issues within the treatment area may affect suitability.

You will also learn when a client should seek medical advice before treatment.

Managing Client Expectations

HIFU results develop differently for each client.

You will learn how to explain that visible changes may be gradual and can depend on the client’s skin, age, treatment area and individual response.

The course also covers how to discuss realistic outcomes without promising a specific result.

A full-on day but really worthwhile. I found the cartridge depths confusing at first, but once we went through the different facial areas it became much easier to understand. I took loads of notes and definitely feel more prepared now.

I’d been putting off HIFU training because the machines always looked a bit intimidating. This course took away a lot of that fear. Everything was broken down properly and I came away feeling like I actually understood what I was doing rather than just copying a routine.

I had been unsure about HIFU machines because there are so many settings and cartridges, but the course made it much easier to understand. The tutor explained depth selection and treatment spacing really well.
